The Massana School forms part of the long transformation process of the Gardunya Square, situated in the heart of Barcelona’s historical district. This project responds to the will of creating a luminous interior made up of open spaces in its 11,000 square meters of usable surface area, while at the same time achieving an exterior that remains harmonious with the urban web in which it stands. The building is split, both in terms of volumetrics as well as in the solution of the facade, in response to the surrounding constructions. With the objective of giving it a more unique and sculptural character and simultaneously diminishing bulkiness, the part of the building that faces the square is decomposed into two rotating volumes that generate different terraces. The ceramic piece reminiscent of a brise soleil that covers the exterior emphasizes its volumetric will while at once protecting the student’s privacy.

El BCC integra una Facultad de Ciencias Gastronómicas ubicada en Donostia-San Sebastián adscrita a Mondragon Unibertsitatea y un Centro de Investigación e Innovación en Alimentación y Gastronomía, proyecto único a nivel europeo. Se trata de una Facultad viva donde también conviven entusiastas de la gastronomía y profesionales de la restauración, donde se organizan eventos, ciclos de conferencias y seminarios, actos culturales.... En un edificio singular que ha recibido varios premios dotado con el mejor equipamiento para que los alumnos puedan aprender de la manera más efectiva y práctica posible. Un edificio integrado de forma respetuosa en su entorno. Proyecta una imagen rotunda, innovadora, sugerente y audaz. 15.000 metros cuadrados construidos en medio de un campus rodeado por el paisaje. Basque Culinary Center está situado en una zona elevada al sur de Donostia-San Sebastián llamada Miramón, dentro del Parque Tecnológico del mismo nombre.

The Carlos Santamaría Centre, located in San Sebastian is an advanced data centre and library, linked to the Ibaeta University Campus and the result of a competition developed by the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). A curved concrete library with a narrow courtyard driven through its centre. Completed in 2008 by Ander Marquet Ryan of Spanish architects JAMM, Timber-panelled walls surround the secluded courtyard, which separates the two-storey building into two asymmetrical halves. The building is conceived as a huge container, shaped from a spontaneous outline following the natural curve of the lot. The line is the wall containing the two blocks arranged in a north-south direction, and its vertex is at the place we consider the most important: the building’s main access, which opens up like a large mouth, pointing the vertex towards the sky.

The Katowice Library by HS99 is a university campus facility located in Katowice, Poland. Officially titled the ‘Katowice Scientific Information Center and Academic Library', this construction is intricate with red sandstone paneling. This visually striking complex was designed by architectural trio Dariusz Herman, Wojciech Subalski and Piotr Smierzewski. The building of the Library has been located at the intersection of two axes of the Silesian University campus. At the intersection, in front of the library, a central university square has been designed: the Forum. Here is the entrance to the new library. The height of the library building has been adapted to the average height of the buildings on the university campus. The elevation surpassing this height is directed towards the Forum and houses a closed library. A strongly introvert composition of the library floors attracts one’s attention to books, and introduces peace and harmony.
